AMAZING WEEK AT OPIHI LOVE!

It's been an amazing & busy couple of weeks at Opihi Love.  First a show stopper of a wedding with Belle Destination Wedding & Events at the Haiku Mill! Blossoming Tea Centerpieces, Turkish Rugs, Drift Wood, Air Plants and Wine Bottles.  It was an evening of pure elegance and breath taking beauty! Belle Destination has once again out done themselves!

Next Opihi is on a boat! If you ever want to get married on a boat, Trilogy Excursions is amazing! The boat is spacious, the crew is the best, and the gourmet food, fabulous!

Opihi would also like to welcome a new service to our prop & furniture rental- custom wood design.  Want over-sized letters? a custom bar? Opihi Love has partnered with All Creative Productions of Maui to create exclusive pieces for Opihi Love.  We can take any wedding location and turn it into your dream wedding- right down to the plantation windows, and custom garden bars.

Opihi Love Prop & Furniture Rental Design Renderings!

Opihi Love, LLC is offering design rendering as part of our styling services.  Design rendering is an invaluable tool that will ensure our event styling is on-track with that of our clients. It will allow our brides, photographers, or coordinators the ability to visualize what their vision is going to look like, before it is constructed.  Here's how it works....

An Opihi Bride would like a custom dessert table with a three tier cake, two tier cupcake stand,  macaroons, and a bunt cake.  The Brides colors are khaki, grey, pink and off white.  Decor; she has pink spray roses, with large pom-poms hanging over a long white table.  It's Opihi Loves job to style out the table and make it "work".

Since most of our styling is done over the phone, or via email- Opihi Love is able to send the bride an amazing rendering (like the one below) for her to review.  The Bride has a visual, and a piece of art work to add to her wedding memory collection!

Why Opihi Love? It's Vintage with love...

Today I was asked two questions; Why Opihi Love and what inspired me to create this one of a kind (on Maui) company.  It's not the first time I've been asked, so I thought I would take a moment and write a quick blog.  

Why Opihi Love?

I have always adored the nature of an Opihi. The intense opihi-rock connection, the strength of the shell against the slamming ocean, the history of it’s journey to the Hawaiian Islands from Japan and so on. One of my first memories of Maui was watching my family pick Opihi off the sides of black lava rock, right on the oceans break point. Opihi Pickers. Translation; the Opihi depicts connections to family, strength, life’s journey and finding the perfect rock (or in my case my husband) to stick to!  Opihi to me, is vintage... it's old Hawaii, and it's a life source- something I wanted to represent in my company!   


My inspiration came from my brother and sister-in-laws wedding in Seaside, OR. Their wedding was just everything antique, vintage, and to top it off it was held in an old barn! All their tables were different, every chair unique, the flowers beyond anything I've seen, and the lightning- so simple but yet so elegant! I wanted to provide this uniqueness & love to our brides on Maui.  Being on an island we have limits of what we can provide, and offer our weddings.  I have made it my job to find those unique items for you- whether it's a vintage suit case,  a rustic wooden box or a Channel brooch- I will find it for you!

Vintage Wedding Party Gifts

Here at Opihi Love we love putting vintage twists on wedding traditions.  Brides & Grooms are always looking for the perfect gifts to provide their bridal party.  The obvious: jewelry, flasks, and maybe a day at the spa.  Below are some fun ways to add a little bit of a personal touch to your gifts, with a vintage spin. 

~ Utilize antique floral brooches throughout your wedding, on your bouquet or even as part of your decor.  After the wedding, find a cute vintage cigar box or old tin box- and give your bridal wedding party each a brooch. Something they will look at and remember you by forever. 

~ If you are getting married in a destination location (Opihi Love is located on Maui) see what local products are available.  Great skincare products or beautiful hand made candles are perfect!  On Maui, Queen Bee is the top local beauty provider.  Their packaging is very apothecary, and vintage inspired- the best part is by far the essence of their products.  A-MAZING

~ Add some local nostalgia to your gifts. Below is a photo of a Haleakala Dairy glass bottle (Opihi Love has an extensive collection of Local Dairy Bottles).  Haleakala Ranch/Dairy is staple of Old Hawaii.  It represents conservation, heritage and plantation life!  Giving a piece of Hawaiian history to your bridal party, will be a conversation piece as long as it's up on the mantle. 

~ Other Bridal Party Vintage Ideas: Old Bottle openers (GM), Locally made cigars (GM), Vintage Frames (mail a wedding photo after the wedding to fill the frame), and if your feeling adventurous  maybe gift your party a ride on the old sugar cane train.

Maui’s First Vintage Rental Company Launches!

Makawao, Maui- Maui has another wedding resource to offer destination and local brides, the islands first vintage prop and furniture Rental Company! Melissa Padilla, Prop Stylist and Owner has launched Opihi Love, LLC. Opihi Love, LLC, has an extensive collection of unique finds, such as Hawaiian, Industrial, Rustic, Antique and Vintage Décor for weddings, photo shoots and corporate events.

Although there are many rental companies on the island of Maui, Opihi Love, LLC intends to offer rentals that are custom to each client’s creative vision. “I wanted to create a company that allows brides the accessibility to vintage and unique products available on the mainland, but not on Maui. I’m a detailed person, so when I was married on Maui, I spent a small fortune shipping props, and custom items to the island. With Opihi Love, LLC, we have created a collection of rentals for you, and developed a network of vendors that can accommodate all of our clients custom rental needs.” Opihi Love Services include event design and styling, event renderings, and furniture & prop rentals.

Owner, Melissa Padilla, has an extensive background in Marketing & Event Planning.  She has designed, styled and coordinated events for TIME Magazine, AOL Time Warner, Maui Non-Profits, and Maui Weddings.
